The evil of human trafficking is entering the mainstream, both of law enforcers globally, and of NGOs and other concerned civil society organisations. Poverty in emerging countries, coupled with the trans-border activity of organised crime is fuelling the movement of women into the sex trade and migrant workers into local wage and illegal sectors in developed countries. The criminal act of smuggling, that the illegal movement of sometimes willing workers from one country to another is driven by the presentation of false promises. Such activities are frequently coupled with the criminal movement and trade in arms and drugs.
