Covid Fraud: Abuse of PCR testing regime in Gulf

Dubai: A man has been accused of forging a COVID-19 test to leave the country through Dubai International Airport.

Staff at Dubai International Airport in December 2020 found a 32-year-old Pakistani with a PCR test result that was out of date. He was told to take a new test. The traveler left the airport and came back after 30 minutes with a COVID-19 test result where the date had been changed.

The defendant claimed that he had done the test in Sharjah but he planned to travel after three days. He called his friend who helped him change the expiry date and type the forged test result before heading back to the airport.

The 30-year-old Pakistani friend admitted to making a copy of the forged document and handing it over to the defendant to travel. Both were charged with forgery and using a forged document.
